Communication

At all times of the day and night there is are nurses, junior doctors and a consultant responsible for looking after babies.

If parents want to meet with a consultant, they need to ask the nurse looking after their baby and she will arrange for this to happen. For the most part the consultant in charge of a baby's care will be able to speak to parents on the same day as requested; but certainly no later than the next day. In cases of emergency or where a baby is very ill, then a consultant will usually be available immediately.

There are 9 consultants responsible for the care and treatment of the babies admitted to the neonatal unit. The consultant that parents see, if they have concerns or questions about their baby, will be the one who is attending their baby at that time.
