Visiting times
Parents, brothers and sisters.
Parents and brothers and sisters of a baby are welcome during
the day and evening. For the safety and security of babies, other patients in
the hospital and staff, it is requested that normal visiting should be between
9.00 am – 10.30 pm.
Handover times
At nursing handover times (7.30am - 8.30am and 7.30pm - 8.30pm)
the nursery is busy and information is being shared amongst staff. To allow
staff time to exchange information about all the babies as privately as
possible, it is asked that parents leave or do not enter the nursery at these
times.
Ward rounds
In intensive care there is a ward round every morning, usually
beginning at around 9am. Parents are welcome to listen and ask questions when the
doctors are discussing the care of their baby. No other parents will be present
at this time. When the discussion about their baby has finished, parents will
be asked to leave so that privacy is ensured for all.
All parents are asked to remain out of the nursery for the grand round on
Friday morning. This is because there is extensive discussion and teaching at
this time and issues concerning several babies may be raised at the same time.
The baby's nurse will update his parents after the ward round has finished
(usually late morning).
Quiet time
There is a quiet hour between 2pm and 3pm in all the nurseries.
Its purpose is to promote an hour of peace and tranquillity in rooms, which are
so often noisy and busy. During the quiet hour babies are not disturbed except
for essential care or treatment; in the special care nurseries soothing music
is played.
Other visitors
Other family and friends are welcome to visit between the hours
of 3.00pm – 7.30pm. The children of other friends or family cannot come into
the nursery if they are under the age of 11 years.
