Who can visit
We encourage parents to be with your baby as much as possible. Remember that
you are important to him. Your friends and family are probably keen to meet
your new baby; and offer what help they can whilst he is in hospital. However
we have a duty to protect both you and your baby in any way we can. That means
limiting the amount of visitors and therefore the potential for exposure to
infection such as coughs or colds. It also means keeping the nurseries free
from visitors around the change of nursing shifts so that information relating
to your baby is kept as private as possible.
On one of your very first visits to the neonatal unit, your baby's nurse
will give you a written copy of our visiting guidelines and issue you with 4
Visitors passes. This means that your baby can have 4 visitors per day (not
including Mum and Dad). You can have a different 4 visitors each day but you
cannot have more than 4 different visitors in one day.
If you want a friend or relative to be able to visit your baby without you
then they will need a visitor's pass. Without a pass they will not be
allowed into the nurseries. For security reasons - lost passes will not be
replaced so please take care of them.
